Spicy P is without a doubt the MIP (Most Improved Player) of the 2018/19 NBA season. But last night, he was the MVP for the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors took game three, 98-93 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Siakam led the team with 30 points while shooting 65% from the field. A career high in the playoffs. Siakam added 11 rebounds and four assists to his stat line.
Another thing to notice about Siakam’s effort last night against the Magic is that he lead the team in minutes played with a whopping 41:33 time spent on the court.
On a night where a few key contributors struggled, including Kawhi Leonard, Siakam carried the team to a five point victory. Leonard just couldn’t seem to get into a rhythm offensively finishing the game with 16 points while shooting 26%.
Two other players that will look to bounce back in game four are Fred VanVleet and Serge Ibaka.
VanVleet, like Leonard struggled with his shot all night and finished the game with only four points. As well as missing both of his two shots from behind the arc. VanVleet was noticeably frustrated at the end of the third quarter when he missed an open layup as time expired.
Ibaka on the other hand struggled on both sides of the floor. He finished with six points while shooting 33%. But defensively he was a mess, he couldn’t seem to contain the Magic’s big men down low. Resulting in him losing inside positioning leading to easy buckets or resulting in him fouling.
The big takeaway from game three is that even when playoff Kawhi struggles, Siakam is there to make up for it. Spicy P has proven that he is now the second option on this Raptors team and for a good reason. He now averages 24.3/10/3 per game in the playoff while shooting 55%.
The Raptors will look to take a 3-1 lead over the Magic on Easter sunday at 7PM EST.
